Women and Power

CIS, Central and East Asia, From Rhetoric to Reality

Ukraine is a country managed by men. The Government, parliament, police, army, state owned enterprises, private companies, transport, social services – everywhere men are in charge. But Lyudmila Bezpalko became the youngest Director in the Soviet pharmaceutical industry when she was only thirty, and she still runs one of the largest factories in the Ukraine. This remarkable woman explores her experience of traditional expectations of women in the Ukraine and the professional challenges of working in a transitional economy.
