In Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa, only 3% of Members of Parliament are women. Despite these formidable odds two influential Nigerian women are setting an example and calling for change. Chief Bisi Ogunleye, the spirited co-ordinator of an association that empowers rural women to join the democratic process, looks forward to a female President. Whilst Temi Harriman, who is already a Member of Parliament representing indigenous people in the oil rich Niger Delta, challenged sex-discrimination during her election and now calls for women to have the courage of their convictions.
